Liberal But Not Partisan

Liberal musings and other opinions on the sometimes-entertaining, sometimes-frustrating world of American politics. Expect lots of GOP-bashing -- if for no other reason than they make it so damn easy!

  • This point can never be repeated often enough.

  • Rolling Stone: Rachel Maddow's Quiet War

An excellent piece about MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, one of the few voices on cable news who I trust. A highly recommended read.

  • Stand Up and be Counted as a Rachel Maddow Listener

    Signal boost … or something:

On Rachel’s Monday, June 25 show, Rachel called out Jeff Timmer, Former Michigan “Public” servant. His transgression? The major one was not recusing himself from the decision to reject all the petitions circulated for the initiative to nullify Michigan’s Emergency Manager law. He had severe conflicts of interest. But that’s NOT why I’m posting this.

I’m posting this because he snidely referred to Rachel having “tens of viewers”! Which is patently ridiculous! So I say to you all: If you watch The Rachel Maddow Show, stand up and be counted!

    We are legion! ;)

    Proud viewer!

Dan Rather and Maddow. Cute scarf!

Two of my favorite people. I love it whenever he comes on her show.

Rachel Maddow reports on the underhanded shenanigans of the Republican Party in Michigan.

  • I Love When I’m Watching The Rachel Maddow Show…

…and as she’s going on one of her tangents, you can hear the people behind the camera laughing.

Especially when she’s constantly given such laughable material.

Rachel Maddow wrote a really good book!
Setting herself apart from other talking heads whose books seem to serve simply as narcissistic reminders that they think they’re smarter than the rest of us (looking at you, Bill Maher!), Maddow instead tackles a real topic — that America has drifted from its founding values with perpetual war without perpetual consequences — with very real insights.
Maddow’s cutting wit, which makes her brilliant as a broadcaster, is evident on every page, making this a surprisingly entertaining and easily-digestible read, considering the topic.
It’s out on Tuesday. Check it out!

I’m currently reading this on my Kindle. I’m only on the first chapter, but it’s already proving to be a valuable history lesson. I’ve learned more about the Vietnam War from Rachel Maddow than I ever did in any of my history classes (even the one I took in college, where my professor had been a Congressman during the war).
I was already going to recommend this book on the grounds that I love anything Rachel Maddow does, but having already digested a small sampling of this text, I can hardly wait for the rest of the book, and I sincerely hope others give the book a try.
Especially if they’re pro-war.

The West Wing quote in the top half has been going around on Facebook lately — so much so that it came to Lawrence O’Donnell’s attention, and he commented about it on his MSNBC show, The Last Word, recently (bottom half).

Amen!

I’ve never watched The West Wing, but the above speech is almost enough to make me check out the series on DVD. A spirited defense of liberalism that I wish more real-life liberals would employ.
Grow some backbones, guys!
